I don’t know about you, but I tend to find that by the time it gets to the end of the week (and as the prospect of a two day work-free window approaches!), I get quite lazy in terms of style choices. At the start of the week, I’ll tend to reach for dresses and skirts, but by the time it gets to Friday and the weekend, it’s very much a jeans and jumper situation. The start of the year, again! Time flies, doesn't it?! I think it’s safe to say that we’re easing into autumn now, and with the start of the new season comes the perfect opportunity for a bit of a reboot. I think it’s the habitual back-to-school feeling of this time of the year which affords the ideal chance to take a step back and remix things, in whatever capacity that might be. Whilst the heatwave of last month feels like ages ago now, I'm really pleased that autumn so far is shaping up to be a fairly sunny one too- especially with temperatures which are much more bearable this time around! This post feels a little bit out of date given that as I type this it's absolutely tipping it down outside and the heatwave feels like an entirely distant memory! As it looks like temperatures are set to soar again this weekend and into the next week, once again I’m gearing up for battling the heat and readying an arsenal of easy-to-wear wardrobe heroes which are warm weather ready but which are also comfortable enough to style for work. With this heatwave seeming to be here for the foreseeable future, I’m sure that I’m not the only one who has been rummaging around in my wardrobe for a selection of weather-appropriate things to wear. It’s one thing to be at home during a heatwave, where various combinations of shorts, smocks and, in my case, pyjamas, are the perfect options for keeping cool, but mastering warm weather officewear is another matter entirely. Day to day (and especially if I'm in a rush first thing in the morning!), I tend to find myself rotating a selection of style staples- a sort of essential everyday uniform if you like. As I mentioned in my last post, over recent weeks I've been rummaging through my knitwear stash in search of those staples which will make the transition towards winter that little bit easier. Whilst I'm yet to commit fully to retrieving my winter coat from the back of the wardrobe (it's probably on the way to Narnia by now!), I've got a steady rotation of knits on the go at the moment, in an attempt to avoid heading headlong into top-to-toe winterwear too early. Don't get me wrong, I'm as fond of sitting out in the garden decked out in a pair of shorts and a tee as the next girl, but dressing for work during the warm weather is another matter altogether- and usually a very sticky one! London, in particular, isn't the best place to be when the temperatures rise, especially if you're contending with oven-like public transport and very few ways to keep cool during the day. If there's one thing in life which I'm not made for (as well as long division), it's the heat. If the temperatures veer towards the top of the twenties on the thermometer, then I'm generally reduced to a sweaty mess, who seems only to be able to repeat the phrase 'It's too hot!' on a loop. One of the lovely things about heading off on holiday (or even on a mini break) is having the chance to snap up some different styles. It's been a little while since I headed off anywhere warm for a long weekend, so, in advance of my trip to France, I was keen to shop around for some summer holiday heroes. There's something crushingly ironic about the fact that I'm penning this post having just been absolutely drenched and windswept the moment I set foot outside of the front door- an indicator, I suppose, that the Great British Summertime is well and truly with us! After the glorious weather of last week, it's probably no surprise that the cosmic balance has been restored rather rapidly- something which is making me even more grateful for having been able to get away last month.
