22.03.2019- On the Menu: Ard Bia at Nimmos, Galway

Image
It’s been a little while since I posted about any recently visited foodie destinations, but Galway well and truly had the goods in terms of a must-visit restaurant. Ard Bia at Nimmos, which we visited for Sunday lunch on a handful of recommendations, is home to a wonderfully casual atmosphere and a wonderful menu, expertly crafted around seasonal, locally produced ingredients. Plus, anywhere that greets you with a plethora of freshly baked options as you open the door is an instant winner with me:    Almost like a home from home, there’s a cool, comfortable feel to Ard Bia- where the menu does all of the talking. As well as a bounty of brunch options, there’s always a selection of daily specials on offer- on our visit including a delicious pulled pork sandwich and fish pie. I honestly really struggled to choose what to have- and am determined to make it back to try their French toast. The sweet options were just as satisfying too, from rhubarb cheesecake to and earl grey and gin sponge

18.03.2019- A Facial at Luminis Beauty, Reigate

Image
Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited along to my local Luminis Beauty salon to indulge in a little spot of rest and relaxation- the perfect way to round off my recent holiday and try and recalibrate as much as possible before heading back to work. It's only in the last year or so that I've really embraced heading to a salon every few months for a treatment (usually either a facial or a deep tissue massage), but have become a real convert in quite a short space of time. I think that there's a lot to be said for taking (and indeed making) the time to look after yourself properly- an hour every once in a while to completely switch off from the outside world and relax. My trip last Tuesday represented my first visit to a Luminis salon, and I was well and truly converted by the end of the experience: After a consultation with the the therapist who would be doing my treatment (the wonderful Rehana), and having spoken through my skincare concerns, we settled on the Elemis S

15.03.2019- What I Wore Today #364

As I touched on in my last style shaped post, by the time the week is winding down, I can usually be found in various different combinations of jeans and jumpers. With the weather proving so changeable at the moment, I’ve had to put the brakes on fully embracing any sort of spring style, and have instead reverted to combining some of my winter essentials with some fresh favourites. Again, it will probably come as no surprise that most of my go-to pieces at the moment are more or less various different iterations of blue- but as a practical alternative to darker hues, I’m all for it: Jumper- Mango  Jeans- Whistles  Coat- c/o Very  Shoes- Adidas (c/o Spartoo)  Bag- & Other Stories  This jumper from Mango is a piece which I snapped up towards the end of last year, and it’s served me really well over the last couple of months. Not only is it really cosy, but the vivid colour makes it the perfect piece for contrasting with lots of other day-to-day essentials too. These Whistles jeans

13.03.2019- Travel Talk: Visiting the Wild Atlantic Way

Image
Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to escape across to Ireland for a lovely (and very welcome!) three day break, staying at a beautiful house in Carraroe- a very remote but gorgeous spot along the Wild Atlantic Way. It was my first time exploring this awe-inspiring part of the world, and needless to say it well and truly lived up to the wild description- with every sort of weather imaginable bathing us in regular bouts of rain, sleet, hail, wind and sunshine, as well as the occasional thunder and lightning storms too! Exploring the coastal route, the rugged landscape of Connemara and the irresistible charm of Galway, it was impossible not to fall in love with this unique corner of Ireland:  As well as hallmark dry stone walls and rolling green fields, Carraroe is also home to a truly stunning coral beach- a real natural wonder if ever there was one- and one which we braved some seriously strong winds to explore! Oughterard, in Connemara is another gem, and the drive to get there stan

I don’t know about you, but I tend to find that by the time it gets to the end of the week (and as the prospect of a two day work-free window approaches!), I get quite lazy in terms of style choices. At the start of the week, I’ll tend to reach for dresses and skirts, but by the time it gets to Friday and the weekend, it’s very much a jeans and jumper situation. Luckily, over recent months, I’ve amassed a pretty solid combination of styles which are perfect for more dressed-down days: Sweatshirt- Kitri  Jeans- Whistles  Sunglasses- Ray Ban (c/o John Lewis)  Bag- & Other Stories  Shoes- Adidas  I love this sweatshirt from Kitri as it’s full of character without being too in your face, and it makes a welcome change from some of the slightly less subtle sloganed styles in my wardrobe. I love the sentiment of the graphic too, and have already been wearing this piece on a more or less weekly basis since I bought it. Here I teamed it with some of my favourite jeans from Whistles, which I

04.03.2019- Most Wanted: Whistles Spring 2019

Image
After a sudden burst of almost summertime temperatures, I’m finding myself pretty relieved that we’re now back to standard weather for the time of year- I don’t think I’ve ever celebrated it being under 8 degrees before but June weather in February is pretty scary! I’m also pretty chuffed to be back in my winter coat for the time being, and there’s no doubt that the topsy turvy temperatures can make it quite tricky to know what to wear from day to day, particularly if you’re leaving the house before sun-up most mornings. Luckily, over the last few weeks there has been a slow trickle of new season lines popping up in the shops, and it’s no surprise that Whistles (one of my long term favourites) have come up with the goods once again: Mid Wash Barrel Leg Jeans, £95/Fashion Detail Cotton Knit in Lemon, £99/Feline Leopard Logo T-Shirt, £49/Oversized Funnel Neck Knit, £119/Cat Eye Sunglasses, £49/You Got This Tote £35/Pink Cherie Embroidered Sweatshirt, £79/Multicoloured Feel Beautiful Tee,

27.02.2019- Beauty Buys: Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleansing Ritual

Image
With spring, well, springing up all over, I’ve taken the opportunity to spruce up my skincare and overhaul some aspects of my regular routine. I always tend to forget just how much of a toll winter takes on my skin, and the arrival of the warmer weather is always something of a welcome relief from the chillier months (although I am seriously concerned for the planet after the warmest February day on record..!) I’m also trying to be a little bit thriftier with my pennies in advance of some trips which I’ve got on the horizon over the coming months, so have been shopping around for a feasible alternative to a facial at a salon, and have discovered the perfect products in the shape of a new cleansing combination from Charlotte Tilbury:  This Goddess Cleansing Duo is a combination which I’ve had my eye on for a couple of months now, and has proved to be a payday treat well worth waiting for. Sold as a spa-in-a-jar, it well and truly does what it says on the tin, with the first step incorpo
